Boro redesigns Web site, changes thrust of content
BY LORI ANNE OLIWA
Correspondent

KEYPORT - Borough Administrator and Director of Engineering Peter Valesi has announced the launch of Keyport's newly redesigned Web site, www.keyportonline.com.

The new Web site was officially unveiled on Feb. 15. Much of the layout and design of the new Web site was inherited from the old one, with the notable exception of the intro screen with the sea gulls and their chirping sound effects, which is now gone. The original site was for the most part maintained by the Keyport Business Alliance (KBA), and featured more of its content than the municipal government's.

According to Valesi, Tom Antonucci, the previous borough administrator, did all the layout and design for the municipal content on the old site, and met with him before the redesign. Valesi said he wants the new Web site to be a better and more complete resource for the community, and he feels the borough is responding to the public interest.

"Anything pertaining to the borough will be on this site. That includes policy changes, departmental news, meetings and events, agendas and minutes of council meetings, and many other things as they arise," Valesi said.

Valesi said that the Keyport Business Alliance will still be listed on the new Web site in the business section, and that listing will be linked to their own new Web site, www.keyportKBA.com. Valesi explained that the KBA will continue to maintain its own Web site.

"The focus of the new borough Web site is definitely municipal," said Valesi.

Qscend Technologies designed the original architecture of the Web site using software that will enable easy modifications, according to Valesi.

"The fact that we can do our own modifications and updates will save the borough the expense of having outside Web developers perform these functions on a regular basis," said Valesi. "Cost-savings is important."

As for the future, Valesi said that the site will continue to evolve.
