SJV's Favaloro second at MOC

CHRIS KELLY staff St. John Vianney's Chris Favaloro clears the bar in the pole vault during Sunday'sNJSIAA Meet of Champions in Toms River. Favaloro finished second in the event.
St. John Vianney pole vaulter Chris Favaloro was the top local performer at the NJSIAA Indoor Meet of Champions.

The senior matched his winning height at the State Group III championships, 13-6, but finished second on fewer misses to Manalapan's Mike Goldwasser.

In all, four vaulters cleared 13-6 on Sunday at the Bennett Indoor Sports Complex in Toms River.

When Goldwasser, Favaloro, North Hunterdon's George Vallone and Don Bosco Prep's Matt Steeg all failed to clear 14-0, the MOC title came down to the jumper with the fewer misses. Goldwasser was clean up to 14-0 and that gave the Brave the gold medal.

Favaloro was second, followed by Vallone and Steeg.

Favaloro's teammate, sprinter Paul Barolette, reached the 55-meter dash final where he finished seventh (6.65). Plainfield's Reggie Dixon won with a 6.46.

Holmdel's George Galasso was sixth in the 1,600 meters (4:25.04). The race went to a fellow Shore Conference runner Dennie Waite of Red Bank Regional, who used a late kick to win in 4:21.63.

Kyle Robinson of Matawan, tied for 12th in the high jump (6-0). Devon Bond of Trenton Central was the only jumper over the bar at 6-8.

For the girls, whose MOC was Saturday, Mater Dei's Marie Walsh was 12th in the 1,600 (5:09.28) that was won by Southern Regional's Jillian Smith in 4:53.98.
