Center announces blood drives slated for March

Central Jersey Blood Center, Shrewsbury, has announced the following local blood drives:

+ March 11 from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Temple Shalom, 5 Ayrmont Ave., Aberdeen

+ March 17 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Liberty Tax Service, Airport Plaza, 1444 Route 36, Hazlet. Free tax service for each number.

+ March 17 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 20 Hillcrest Road, Holmdel.

The donation process takes about an hour. Donors must also complete a medical history interview and have a mini-physical (temperature, iron, pulse and blood pressure screening). Interested donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. All donors must present signature ID at time of registration.

Donations may also be made at Central Jersey Blood Center, 494 Sycamore Ave., Shrewsbury. To schedule an appointment, call the center at (732) 842-5750.

A'deen temple announces March activities

Temple Shalom, 5 Ayrmont Lane, Aberdeen, is collecting books, magazines, coloring books and crayons during March for children being treated at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Donations should be new and unwrapped and appropriate for children ages preschool through 12.

The temple's nursery school open house will be March 12-16. Limited space is available for September. For more information, call the school at (732) 566-1630. "Temple Tots" for children age 3-5 will be March 18 at 9:30 a.m.. Children will learn the traditions of Passover by creating crafts and holiday snacks. There will also be storytelling and singing.

The temple will present Noam Katz in concert with its children's and adult choirs March 18 at 11:30 a.m. Katz performs soulful melodies, and has performed throughout North America, Israel and Africa. "Modern Issues in Talmudic Context," an introduction to the structure of the Talmud will be March 15 from 7:30-9 p.m. Rabbi Laurence Malinger will lead a program on "Jewish Funeral and Mourning Customs" April 19 and 26 from 7:30-9 p.m. The temple's sisterhood and brotherhood will hold a goods and services auction April 21 at 7 p.m. The event will feature appetizers, desserts and door prizes. Tickets are $18, and proceeds benefit projects of the sisterhood and brotherhood.

"Passover University" will be held March 25 from 1-4 p.m. Participants may choose up to two courses in the temple's Passover curriculum on topics such as cuisine, seders and music. The courses for adults and teens will be presented by resident and visiting scholars. Tuition is $12 for members for two courses, and $8 for one; and $15 and $10, respectively, for nonmembers. Baby-sitting will be available. Registration deadline is March 16.
