Brookdale to celebrate Women's History Month
The office of student life and activities and the women's student organization at Brookdale Community College will celebrating Women's History Month in March with a number of programs.
"Shaping a Life, The Early Years of Eleanor Roosevelt" will be March 8 at noon. Baseball Hall of Fame 1988 inductee Ernestine "Teeny" Petras will talk March 20 at 1:30 p.m. in MAC building, room 204. Dr. Jean Kilbourne presents "Deadly Persuasion: Advertising and Addiction" and examines ads for alcohol, cigarettes and diet products March 20 at noon. Cost is $3, and free to BCC students and staff.
"Elizabeth," the 1998 Shekhar Kapur film about religious tension, political conspiracy, sex and violence will be March 27 and 29 in continuous showings 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A historical fashion show will be March 27 at noon. The League of Women Voters of Monmouth County will present a historic perspective on eminent domain and its effects March 28 at 7:30 p.m. "Three Great Wives of the Civil Rights Movement" will be March 29 from 7-9 p.m. Storyteller Lorraine Stone-Thomas will discuss Myrlie Evers, Betty Shabazz and Coretta Scott King. Auxiliary's tricky tray auction March 9
The Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post No. 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown, will hold a tricky tray auction March 9 from 7-11 p.m. The fundraiser will be at the Post Home at 1 Veterans Lane.
Doors open at 6 p.m. Fee is $5 per person with proceeds benefiting the auxiliary's cancer aid research program. Refreshments will be available for purchase, and there will be free coffee and tea. Call Rose at (732) 716-1550.
