Nominations sought for awards

FREEHOLD - The Monmouth County Historical Commission is seeking nominations for the 2007 Monmouth County Preservation Awards.

Anyone, including a property owner, may nominate a structure that has historic value and has undergone preservation work that was substantially completed in 2006.

Homes, business buildings, houses of worship, public buildings and other miscellaneous structures are eligible for the award. Structures that already have received a preservation grant from Monmouth County are not eligible.

"Since its inception in 1988, the Monmouth County Historical Commission has been dedicated to preserving our past and creating a living history of our county," said Randall Gabrielan, executive director of the commission.

"We typically receive nominations for many types of structures, but we also know there are many worthwhile projects that never reach us," he said.

The nomination process entails the completion of a one-page application that can be downloaded from the commission's Web site at www.visitmonmouth.com/history.

Applications must reach the commission by April 16.
