Army Pvt. John P. Alfonso has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction in various drills, ceremonies, marksmanship, weapons, and other areas. A 1996 graduate of Matawan Regional High School, he is the son of George E. Alfonso of Matawan, and Jessica A. Alfonso of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge.
Army Spec. Jason C. Francolini has arrived in Iraq as part of a troop rotation or augmentation in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Francolini is a health-care specialist normally assigned to the 1st Battalion, 34th Armor Regiment, Fort Riley, Junction City, Kan. A 2001 graduate of Holmdel High School, he is the son of Judy M. and Carl M. Francolini of Holmdel.
Air Force Airman Anthony S. Melici has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. During training, he studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations. Additionally, airmen completing basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. A 2005 graduate of Middletown High School North, he is the son of Margaret Mulcahey of Red Bank, and Steve Melici of Piscataway.
