Man breaks in, robs bank

MIDDLETOWN - Authorities are still searching for a suspect behind a break-in at a local bank last week.

At about 12:20 a.m. Thursday, township police responded to a burglar alarm at the Amboy National Bank on Route 36 in the Port Monmouth section of town. When officers arrived at the bank, which was closed for the night, they found glass from the front door smashed out. Officer Ryan Riffert assisted Officer Robert McNair in searching the interior of the bank, where it appeared that the suspect went through money drawers.

Surveillance cameras captured images of a man wearing a dark-colored mask, dark pants and a white short-sleeve shirt. It appeared that nothing was taken from the bank.

According to Detective Lt. Joseph Capriotti, the suspect has not been caught as of yet, and the investigation is ongoing.

Sgt. William Straniero, supervisor on the scene, requested a tracking K-9 from the Holmdel Police Department. Middletown Detective First Class Adam Finck and Detective William Strohkirch are conducting the follow-up investigation.
