Residents invited to celebrate Aberdeen's 150th birthday

ABERDEEN - The township will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a birthday party at town hall on April 29 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a choir festival at 7 p.m. at Temple Shalom of Aberdeen.

The afternoon event, Birthday Bash, will feature open house tours of town hall, video clips of township memories, giveaways, announcement of student historical essay contest winners and an appearance by Mrs. Monmouth County, Elizabeth Preston. Special activities for children will include a scavenger hunt and a touch-a-truck program under which staff from the Matawan Aberdeen Public Library will lead story times and discussions pertaining to fire trucks, ambulances and safety/emergency vehicles. Birthday cake and other refreshments will be served.

Singers scheduled to perform at Choir Fest include groups from St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, First Baptist Church, Matawan United Methodist Church, St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church, St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Temple Shalom. Temple Shalom is located at 5 Ayrmont Lane, just off Church Street.
