Wool Days slated in Holmdel

The Monmouth County Historical Association will present a special family program at its Holmdel site, the Holmes-Hendrickson House, on April 28-29 from noon to 3 p.m. each day.

Wool Days is held in coordination with neighboring Longstreet Farm's sheep shearing. Visitors to Holmes-Hendrickson House will be able to try their hand at carding and spinning wool and then tour the 1754 farm house. Guests will have an opportunity to observe wool processing from start to finish. Hay rides will be available to transport visitors from Longstreet Farm to Holmes-Hendrickson House, weather permitting.

Holmes-Hendrickson House, a survival of Dutch vernacular architecture, is on Longstreet Road adjacent to the Monmouth County Park System's Longstreet Farm. Along with the MCHA's three other 18th-century sites, it is open to the public free of charge from May 3 to Sept. 29 this season on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1-4 p.m.

The Monmouth County Historical Association's museum and library is at 70 Court St., Freehold. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library is open Wednesday through Saturday. For membership or admission fees and further information, call (732) 462-1466 or visit the Web site at www.monmouthhistory.org.

The Monmouth County Historical Association received an operating support grant from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of the Department of State.
