Concert, reading slated at Middletown Library

Middletown Township Public Library, 55 New Monmouth Road, will begin a monthly poetry series April 26 at 7:15 p.m.

The first free reading will be hosted by local poet Gloria Rovder Healy, with readings by poets such as Frank Finale and Madeline Tiger. An open mic reading will follow.

Instructors from the Monmouth Conservatory of Music, Red Bank, will perform a concert playing 17th- and 18th-century instruments May 2 at 7:30 p.m. Patrick Appello will perform early romantic guitar pieces and theorbo (lute) duets, Laura Appello will play viola da gamba (precursor of the cello), and Timothy Broege will perform on recorder (early flute) and harpsichord (early keyboard instrument).

The event is a collaboration between the nonprofit conservatory and the library.

For more information, call the library at (732) 671-3700, ext. 320, or visit www.mtpl.org.
