Dedication of Matawan cemetery April 29

The Matawan Historic Sites Commission, along with the Matawan Historical Society, will host a dedication ceremony April 29 at 2 p.m. for the newly restored St. James A.M.E. Zion Historic Cemetery, Johnson Avenue, Matawan.

Matawan Mayor Mary Aufseeser will attend, and place a wreath at the monument. There will be a dedication in prayer, and songs sung by the church choir. There will be various testimonials, as well as performances by African-American Civil War re-enactors, and Katie Brower and Lorraine Stone of the Local Commotion historical performing group. A reception will follow at Burrowes Mansion Museum, 94 Main St., Matawan, where there will also be refreshments and mansion tours. For more information, call (732) 583-1736.
