Yelizaveta Yermakova, Middletown, a student at High Technology High School, Lincroft section of Middletown, has been awarded a National Merit Schering-Plough Foundation Scholarship from the nonprofit National Merit Scholarship Corp., Evanston, Ill. Scholars were selected from finalists in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program that met the criteria of the student's scholarship sponsors, with annual stipends ranging from $500-$10,000. Yermakova's probable career field is that of a financial analyst.

Samantha Drake, Middletown, a senior at Henry Hudson Regional High School, Highlands, has been awarded a Merit Scholarship to attend Berkeley College, Garret Mountain campus in West Paterson. The scholarship was awarded based upon academic achievement in high school.

Spencer Tirella, Holmdel, a sophomore at Holmdel High School, has been chosen to attend the National Student Leadership Conference at American University, Washington, D.C., this summer. Students are chosen for the conference based on high standards in academics and leadership.

Adriana Vecchio, Belford section of Middletown, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at American University, Washington, D.C., where she is a junior majoring in law and society at the School of Public Affairs.

Deenise Fazio, Aberdeen, has been inducted into Phi Omega Epsilon Senior Honor Society at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Teaneck. Inductees must have completed at least 90 credits toward an undergraduate degree with a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Casey Morizio, Aberdeen, has been selected as a member of the Cap and Skull Honor Society at Rutgers College, New Brunswick. She was chosen along with 18 other students from the class of 2007. The society rewards excellence in academics, athletics and the arts. Selection is based on demonstration of leadership, academic standing and character. Morizio is the daughter of Sharon and Mike Morizio.

Tom Dougherty, Middletown, a student at Middletown High School North, and Megan Marley, Middletown, a student at Red Bank Catholic High School, have each received a $1,500 Campbell Scholarship Award. The awards were given by Middletown Little League.

Tom Grillo, Hazlet, has been declared a national winner in the American Society of Newspaper Editors/Quill and Scroll 2006 International Writing and Photo Contest. His award was in the "general columns" category titled "Richards' Rant Won't Zap Seinfeld." His second award was in the "editorial cartoon" category and was titled "DaVinci Code." Grillo is a sophomore at Communications High School, Wall.

Spencer Tirella, a sophomore at Holmdel High School, has been chosen to take part in the National Student Leadership Conference this summer. The conference on globalization and international business will be held at American University, Washington, D.C.

Berkeley College, Paramus, has honored two area students who were inducted into Sigma Beta Delta National Honor Society. The Society honors students in business, management or administration pursuing baccalaureate or graduate degrees. To qualify, students must rank in the upper 20 percent of the class. Inductees are:

Diana Adamo of Middletown; and

Stephen Sapienza of Hazlet.

Vincent Solomeno, Hazlet, has been included in the 2007 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." Solomeno is a student at The University of Scranton, Pa., and was among 78 students selected from the university. Students are selected based on academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities, and potential for continued success.

Erica Csimbok, a student at Matawan Regional High School, Aberdeen, has been selected to take part in the People to People Future Leaders Summit June 27-July 6 in Washington, D.C. Students are selected based on outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential. The summit focuses on leadership, team building, community service, college admissions and professional aspirations.
