Local towns schedule Memorial Day events

+ Keyport Business Alliance will host the annual Memorial Day parade, "A Tribute to Main Street America," Sunday at 1 p.m. beginning at West Front Street in downtown Keyport.

Groups and civic organizations from the surrounding area, including fire departments and rescue squads are welcome to take part. Scheduled thus far are Keyport Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4247, Keyport American Legion Raritan Post 23, Keyport Historical Society, Keyport Knights of Columbus, and the Keyport Fire Department. There will also be horses, a horse and buggy from Longstreet Farms in Holmdel with riders in period costumes, cars, motorcycles and a stilt walker.

+ Matawan Recreation Commission will hold its Memorial Day parade Sunday at 2 p.m. For more information, call the chairperson at (732) 290-9344.

+ American Legion Post 338, Middletown, will hold a Memorial Day parade Monday at 10 a.m. at Bayshore Middle School, Leonardville Road. The parade will travel down Leonardville Road to Appleton Avenue to Center Avenue to Brevent Avenue. It will turn right onto Highland Avenue, left on Leonard Avenue, and right on Viola Avenue to the Post Home on Route 36. For more information, call the Post at (732) 291-9579.

+ Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post No. 2179 and its Ladies Auxiliary, Port Monmouth section of Middletown, will hold the annual Memorial Day services Monday at 9 a.m. Services will be at the following memorials: World War I Memorial, Belford section of Middletown, 9 a.m.; Korean War, Wilson Avenue, Port Monmouth, 9:30 a.m.; town hall, Middletown, 10 a.m.; Vietnam, Palmer Avenue, Keansburg, 10:30 a.m.; and VFW No. 2179 Post Home, 1 Veterans Lane, Port Monmouth.

+ Holmdel Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5918, and Holmdel Parks and Recreation Advisory Council will hold a Memorial Day ceremony Monday at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Holmdel municipal building on Crawfords Corner Road.
