Tax reform advocacy group to outline expanded mission
MIDDLETOWN - The Silver Brigade, a statewide grassroots organization dedicated to achieving major reforms in New Jersey's property taxes, announced that it has changed its name to the New Jersey Taxpayers' Association (NJTA) and that the organization has expanded its mission.
NJTA President Jerry Cantrell will be the featured speaker at an upcoming public forum to be held at the Middletown Public Library 7-8:30 p.m. May 29. The move is in line with the organization's goals for expanding its membership and representation statewide and to create a climate conducive to changing the fiscal policies in Trenton.
During his presentation, Cantrell will introduce a variety of new NJTA-sponsored educational initiatives, including soon-to-be published Candidates' Report Cards.
"As active members of their communities, our goal is to provide our members and indeed the general public at large with the knowledge and tools needed to elect responsible officials and to send the message that if change is not forthcoming, we will replace the nonperformers with those who will fight for change," Cantrell said in a press release.
Middletown Township Public Library is located at 55 New Monmouth Road. The program will be in the multipurpose community room. The library's Web site address is www.mtpl.org.
According to the group, the NJTA's efforts are aimed at improving the quality of life in New Jersey by holding elected officials and administrators accountable for sound fiscal management of governmental institutions, organizations and tax dollars.
