National Trails Day slated for June 2

The Monmouth County Park System will celebrate National Trails Day June 2 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The Park System will celebrate the day with trail cleanups at Shark River Park, Schoolhouse Road, Neptune, and Huber Woods Park, Brown's Dock Road, Locust section of Middletown.

Interested volunteers should wear long pants, long sleeves, sturdy shoes and workgloves; and bring water, insect repellent, and sunscreen. A light lunch will be provided after the cleanup. Parks staff will supervise and help. For more information, call Susan at (732) 842-4000, ext. 4283.

Deep Cut Gardens, Red Hill Road, Middletown, will hold an open house June 2 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and feature free tours of the gardens throughout the day. Daylily Day will be June 23 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Deep Cut Gardens, and feature free horticultural advice, displays, and garden design resources.

A lacemaking demonstration will be June 2 from 1-3 p.m. at Longstreet Farm, Longstreet Road, Holmdel. A blacksmith demonstration will be June 10 from 1-3 p.m., and laundry demonstration similar to that done in the 1890s will be June 16 from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at Longstreet. Music Man Rich Marzec will perform June 17 from 1-3 p.m., also at Longstreet. A cookstove demonstration similar to that done in the 1890s will be June 23 from noon-2 p.m and A scherenschnitte (papercutting) demonstration will be June 30 from 1-3 p.m. at Longstreet.
