Coastal Carolina University, Conway, S.C., has announced local students named to the dean's and president's list for the spring semester. To qualify for the dean's list, freshmen must earn a 3.25 or higher GPA, and upperclassmen must earn a 3.5 or higher GPA. To qualify for the president's list, students must earn a 4.0 GPA. James Larkins, West Keansburg, has been inducted into Mu Kappa Tau International Honor Society at Kean University, Union. Inducted were 28 juniors and seniors majoring in marketing at Kean. Students were selected based on academic achievement and an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.
Diana Chien, Holmdel, received a Freshman Award in creative writing at the Princeton University Class Day celebration held during spring commencement exercises.
Middletown resident Jennifer Yaeger has received a $500 scholarship from Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honor Society at Rowan University. Yaeger is a business administration major with a specialization in finance. The scholarship will be matched by Rowan's Rohrer College of Business.
Middletown resident Jillian Gaeta, a graduate of Lafayette University, Easton, Pa., will travel to Namibia this summer to work with Axia, a non-governmental organization that assists children whose parents have died from AIDS. Gaeta received a bachelor of arts degree in international affairs and French with honors. She also studied in Kenya and Tanzania a Lafayette interim course. Following her return from Namibia, Gaeta will train with the Teach for America. She is a graduate of Allied Academy of Health and Science, Neptune.
Patrick Dean, a sixth-grade student at Cove Road School, Kimberly Fallon, a sixth-grade student at Middle Road School, and Ryan Labriola, a sixth-grade student at Beers Street School, all Hazlet, have been honored as an "Outstanding AAA School Safety Patroller of the Year." Each student was awarded a $150 savings bond and a plaque. Selection was based on leadership, dependability, academics, promptness, neatness and industriousness. Twenty-four students statewide were chosen for the award.
