Mat-Aberdeen theater workshop begins June 25

The Matawan-Aberdeen Regional School District will offer a summer theater workshop June 25-July 29, Monday-Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Show dates are July 27 and 28 at 8 p.m., and July 29 at 3 p.m.

The workshop features instruction in dance, vocal and drama; or crew (set design/construction, lights/sound, auditions/staging). Interested students must have completed third grade. Students interested in working as a crew member must have completed seventh grade.

All students must be committed to participating in the final dress rehearsals week and performances, which requires daytime and evening rehearsals. Students planning a vacation during any of the five weeks will be ineligible to participate.

The fee is $240 for nonresidents, and $140 for residents. The program will be held at Matawan Regional High School, 450 Atlantic Ave., Aberdeen. For more information, call Patricia Phillips, assistant principal, at (732) 705-5319.

Register now for Matawan 5K run, walk

Registration is now under way for the second annual Matawan 5K run and walk, to be held July 21 at Terhune Park, Main Street, Matawan.

On race day, sign-up will begin at 7 a.m., lineup at 8 a.m., and the run at 8:30 a.m. Preregistration ends July 13. The cost is $25 for race day registration and $20 for registrations postmarked by July 13. The fee includes a T-shirt and post-race refreshments. There will also be entertainment.

'Mission Matawan' program June 25-30

The First Presbyterian Church of Matawan, 883 Route 35, will hold its fifth annual "Mission Matawan" program June 25-30.

The program assists the elderly, handicapped and others lacking resources to repair and maintain homes. All of the work is done by volunteers from the church. Projects include yardwork, cleaning, small painting jobs and minor repairs.
