Business Briefs

The New Jersey Association of Women Business Owners (NJAWBO) has announced the promotion of Paula J. Gould to executive director. A resident of Princeton Junction, she was hired in 2003 as director of administration. Prior to that, she was a senior vice president at Marsh & McLennan, and had her own consulting company.

The Bayshore Community Hospital Foundation, Holmdel, will hold its annual Day at the Races July 20 beginning at noon at Monmouth Park Racetrack, Oceanport. Tickets are $70 per person, or $60 per person for tables of 10 or more, and include a private buffet luncheon, open bar, and program.

The foundation will present the "Bayshore Golf Classic" Aug. 13 at Manasquan River Golf Club, Brielle. Shotgun starts will be at 8 a.m., and at 1 p.m. following lunch. The afternoon round is limited to the first 100 players. A cocktail and buffet reception will follow at 6:30 p.m. (approximate). Cost is $450 per person, which includes lunch, greens fee, golf cart, cocktail hour and dinner. Price for nongolfers for the cocktail hour and buffet is $150. Proceeds will support the expansion of Bayshore's oncology/cancer services. For reservations for either of the above, call the foundation office at (732) 739-5994.

George E. Hall, Middletown, has been honored by the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration for public service to the residents of New Jersey. Hall received the organization's Leadership Award in Public Affairs in recognition of his work in establishing the Hall Institute of Public Policy - New Jersey, Trenton. Hall established the nonpartisan, nonprofit in 2005 to explore social, economic, educational and cultural issues in New Jersey. The institute has posted a series of white papers, research essays and op-ed articles on its Web site in an effort to generate debate and discussion and develop solutions to the problems confronting the state and its residents.

The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) is issuing a call for entries for its Supporting Emerging Entrepreneurial Development (SEED) business plan competition. The deadline for entries is Sept. 8, and the top 10 finalists will present their business idea to an audience at the NAWBO-CJ SEED conference in October.

The program is a way for established businesses in NAWBO to help new businesses grow quickly. The top three business owners will receive a package of goods and services worth approximately $5,000, and be provided with an advisory board to help the business progress doing the coming year. Entrepreneurs with businesses that are just beginning or are less than two years old can download a form at the Web site www.nawbocentraljersey.org/SEED. For more information, call (800) 644-0709.
