'Please Touch' sculpture exhibit invites contact

"Three Wildflowers" by Janis Purcell
The Sculptors Association of New Jersey is presenting an exhibition of sculpture meant to be touched at The Monmouth Museum.

For all the museum-goers who are discouraged by the prevailing "Do Not Touch" signs, here's a chance to experience art with their fingertips.

The exhibit runs through Aug. 19. An opening reception will be held Friday, 6-8 p.m.

The museum will be reaching out to vision-impaired audiences, for whom this art will have a special appeal. Audio descriptive devices will also be available with information about the artwork. Come create sculpture from household items at our Family Sculpture Workshop Sunday, June 24, from 2-3 p.m. A lively panel discussion with some of the exhibiting artists will take place Sunday, July 15, at 3 p.m.

Founded in 1971, the Sculptors Association of New Jersey plays a major role in broadening the interests and development of sculpture throughout the state.

All programs listed are free for members, Brookdale students and staff with a valid ID, and nonmembers with paid admission.

The Monmouth Museum is located on the Brookdale Community College campus, Newman Springs Road in Lincroft. The Main Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sundays. The museum is closed on Mondays. Admission is $6 per person; members, Brookdale students and staff with a valid ID, and children under 2 are free. For more information, call the museum at (732) 747-2266, or visit www.monmouthmuseum.org.
