Obituaries Jeanette Elizabeth Rathbone Barnes Mrs. Barnes, 84, of Keyport and formerly Hazlet, died June 17, 2007. Born in Hazlet, she resided there until relocating to Keyport in 1997. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Hazlet, where she was a volunteer in the church office. Mrs. Barnes was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, William Ross Barnes, in 1983; and a brother, Norman McLeod Rathbone Jr., in 1988. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William and Mary Ann Barnes of Atlantic Highlands; a grandson; a niece; and a nephew. Interment was at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. Arrangements were by Bedle Funeral Home, Keyport. Henry Seabrook Schanck Jr. Mr. Schanck, 81, of Keyport, died June 18, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He was a lifelong resident of Keyport. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he landed on Omaha Beach and spent 10 months in combat and numerous battles. During the Rhineland campaign, he was severely injured. Discharged in 1945, he was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Medical Badge, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European Campaign Medal, and the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal. He was a charter member of the Blinded Veterans Association, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post No. 1000. Mr. Schanck was predeceased by a brother, John O. Schanck. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen; two sons, Christopher and David; a former daughter-in-law, Donna Schanck; and two grandsons. Burial was at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown. Arrangements were by the Bedle Funeral Home, Keyport. Memorial donations may be made to Blinded Veterans Association, 477 H St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20001-2694.
Maria S. Mendez Mrs. Mendez, 65, of Middletown, died June 19, 2007, at home. Born in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, she came to the United States in 1951 and resided in New York City, Brooklyn and Staten Island, N.Y., before relocating to Middletown six years ago. Mrs. Mendez was a Realtor and broker at Castleton Realty, Staten Island, for 10 years, retiring in 1999. Prior to that, she was employed in accounting at Bayley Seton Hospital, Staten Island, and at Helen and Maria's Beauty Parlor, Brooklyn. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Cesareo Mendez; two daughters and one son-in-law, Diane Jiminez of Middletown, and Teresa and Ney Patin of the Belford section of Middletown; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Rosemarie Mendez of Belford; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Sam Gonzalez of Hazlet, Rae and Louie Soto of Belford, Anna and Andy Roda of Middletown, Millie and Mario Gonzalez of Belford, Romona and John Sais of New Mexico, and Ruthie and Sani Umar of Cherry Hill; her mother, Angie Rodriguez of Middletown; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Mary's Church. Entombment was at Holmdel Cemetery. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Gorman Mr. Gorman, 87, of Seabrook Village, Tinton Falls, died June 20, 2007, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Hazlet before relocating to Seabrook Village five years ago. He was the retired director of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, New York City. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS South Dakota. He was a former member of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach. Mr. Gorman was predeceased by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Gorman, in 1990. He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, James and Patrice of Holmdel, Michael and Mary of Summit, and John and Elizabeth of Metuchen; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Christopher Lukas of Belmar; and 11 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Holy Family Church. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Carolee D. Cichon Mrs. Cichon, 59, of Howell, died June 22, 2007, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Neptune, she was a lifelong Monmouth County resident. Mrs. Cichon was a discharge planner at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, for the past three years. She was a member of Pierce Memorial Presbyterian Church, Farmingdale. Her husband, Walter Alan Cichon, was declared missing in action in 1968. She is survived by three sons, G. Bryan Cichon of Jacksonville, Fla., David Cichon of Lincoln Park, and Malcolm Cichon of Auburndale, Fla.; a daughter, Sara D'Onorio Demeo of Howell; five grandsons; and her companion, Don Spina of Hazlet. A funeral service was held at Pierce Memorial Presbyterian Church, followed by interment in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Arnytown.
Marie Montano Bonelli Mrs. Bonelli, 91, of Matawan, died June 19, 2007, at home. Born in New York City, she resided in Long Island City, N.Y., before relocating to Matawan 10 years ago. Mrs. Bonelli was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Bonelli, in 1984; a sister; and five brothers. She is survived by two daughters, Theresa Portela of North Miami Beach, Fla., and Margaret Novak of South Orange; a son, Francis Bonelli of Bayside, N.Y.; a brother, Joseph Montano of Flushing, N.Y.; a sister, Lucy Marzullo of Whitehouse Station; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, N.Y. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
Margaret Park Mrs. Park, 101, of the Leonardo section of Middletown, died June 8, 2007, at home. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. Before her retirement, Mrs. Park was a secretary at Cunard Steamship Line. She was predeceased by her husband, William She is survived by a brother, Alex; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lorraine Leclaire, Irene and Vito Lombardo, and Margaret and Bob Jorgensen; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Interment was at Ocean View Cemetery, Staten Island, N.Y. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Bernadette M. Donoughe Fraser Mrs. Fraser, 70, of Middletown, died June 18, 2007, at home. Born in Newark, she resided in Middletown the past 35 years. She was a communicant of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Middletown. Mrs. Fraser was predeceased by two sisters, Patricia Arcaro and Theresa Dietrich; and a brother, William Donoughe. She is survived by her husband, William Fraser; two daughters, Meg Flores of Middletown and Lorna Fraser of New York City; a son, Robert Fraser of Phoenix; three sisters, Margaret Hughes of Middletown, Maryann Esandrio of Manchester, and Kathleen Jankowksi of Middletown; a brother, Leo Donoughe of Manchester; and two grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated At St. Catherine's Church. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
