Park system's summer trips begin July 7 The Monmouth County Park System will offer various trips this summer beginning with a trip to the Kutztown (Pa.) German Festival July 7 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost is $39 for transportation and festival admission. The festival features demonstrations of folk life and crafts skills, various foods, and a farmers market. A trip to Newport, R.I., is set for July 9-12, with the bus departing at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $660 single occupancy, $525 double, $475 triple, and $455 quadruple; the child rate is $215. The cost covers transportation, accommodations, three breakfasts, two dinners, and a park system leader. The trip will feature various tours, a visit to a preservation society mansion, cruise to Block Island, and other activities. A "Longwood Gardens - Fireworks & Fountains" trip to Longwood in Delaware will take place July 21. Cost is $75 for transportation, tickets, evening fireworks and barbecue at the gardens, and trip leader. Attendees should bring blankets for seating. All trips depart from Thompson Park, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown. Longstreet Farm, Longstreet Road, Holmdel, will offer various activities this summer, beginning with a blacksmith demonstration July 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. A cook stove demonstration will be held July 14 from noon to 2 p.m. Music Man Rich Marzec will perform July 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. A trip for teens entering grades nine through 12 will feature cycling, paddling and hiking - "Teen Cape Cod Odyssey" - July 30-Aug. 4. Participants will set up camp at Nickerson State Park. Trip highlights include biking at Cape Cod National Seashore, the rail trail, and Nantucket Island. Cost is $660 per person and participants must have a working bicycle with hand brakes and properly fitting bicycle safety certified helmet. "Teen Double Dose Odyssey" will be held July 2-13 (no camp July 4; overnights are Tuesday and Thursday the first week, and Monday-Friday the second week). The trip features biking, kayaking, sailing, rafting, hiking and camping at Turkey Swamp Park, Freehold Township; Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park, Long Branch; and White Water Challengers, Pennsylvania.
