Two area residents ordained as deacons

Thomas J. DiCanio, Holmdel, and Glen Leo Mendonca, Middletown, were both ordained as permanent deacons for service in the Diocese of Trenton by Bishop John M. Smith at St. Mary of Assumption Cathedral, Trenton.

DiCanio is a member of St. Catharine's Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, and has been assigned as deacon to his parish. He has also served St. Catharine's as a lector, usher, acolyte and extraordinary minister of the Eucharist. He has also been involved in the Adult Faith Formation Committee and the Employment Resource Committee. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native is a senior vice president with The Kerry Group, Ireland. He and his wife, Patricia, are the parents of two children.

Mendonca is a parishioner at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, where he has been assigned as a deacon. He serves as a Eucharistic minister, lector, catechist and annulment advocate at the parish, and was a pastoral associate at St. Mary's Parish, New Monmouth section of Middletown, from 2000 to 2006. Born in Bangalore, India, he attended Catholic schools in India. He is employed at Commerce Bank, and as a sales associate at Diane Turton Realty, Middletown. He and his wife, Vilma, have two children.
