Audubon bird walk at Sandy Hook Aug. 16

The Monmouth County Audubon Society will hold an evening bird walk Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. beginning at the visitor's center at Sandy Hook.

Attendees will walk through the dunes to the salt ponds to look for early migrating shorebirds. The free walk will be led by Audubon members. Birds seen regularly on these walks include herons, shorebirds, ospreys and gulls. Participants should bring binoculars and field guides and dress appropriately for the weather. Insect repellent also is recommended. The walk will take place light rain or shine, and pets are not permitted.

Vacation Bible school

in Middletown Aug. 13-17

Middletown Reformed Church and Christ Episcopal Church, Middletown, will offer vacation Bible school, "Take the Plunge and Make a Splash With Jesus," Aug. 13-17 from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Middletown Reformed Church, 121 Kings Highway. The school is for children in grades pre-k through five, and will feature stories, games crafts music and water activities.
