Tickets available to annual Michael's Feat charity BBQ

MATAWAN - The Michael Gerard Puharic Memorial Fund, Inc (Michael's Feat) will honor Jennifer and Jay Adamo, parents who overcame hardships when their triplets were born prematurely in September 2006 at Monmouth Medical Center.

The Michael's Feat Heather-Rose Tribute to Courage recognizes families that overcome a child's serious illness with grace, dignity and courage.

"Having one ill child is stressful enough; Jennifer gave birth to premature triplets, who came home on apnea monitors and had several health complications," Michael's Feat co-founder Dana Puharic said in a press release. "Michael's Feat came to their aid by providing much needed respite care. Now we'd like to honor them for their strength and courage dealing with the challenges of caring for her precious children, who are now 10 months old and at the same time, remember the beauty of Heather Rose Kiss' short life."

"We are honored to accept the Heather-Rose Tribute to Courage Award as a tribute to all the families who have endured the hardships of caring for a seriously ill newborn. We are proud to be recognized by an organization as invaluable as Michael's Feat, who, with open arms, continually assists and supports families in need," Jay and Jennifer Adamo said.

The Heather Rose Kiss Tribute to Courage was named after a local family's daughter who passed away after losing her fight to a rare autoimmune reaction.

Michael's Feat was started seven years ago by Aberdeen residents Adam and Dana Puharic to honor their son, Michael, who passed away at four days old from a chromosome disorder.

The Michael's Feat Summertime Family Barbecue is held annually around Michael's birthday. It will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday at the picnic grounds of St. Clement's Church on Route 79 in Matawan. Tickets to the fundraiser are $15 per adult and $8 for children ages 4-10 and free for children ages 3 and under. Ticket price includes barbecue foods, beverages, live entertainment, crafts, face painting, inflatable rides and more.

Another annual feature of the event is Michael's Feat's super 50/50 with a maximum $10,000 first place prize, and $1,250 for second and third prizes. Super 50/50 tickets are $100, with only 250 printed.

The nonprofit Michael Gerard Puharic Memorial Fund Inc. has been established to support, give comfort and ease the burden for parents caring for seriously ill newborns. For more information contact Michael's Feat at (732) 239-7887 or log onto www.michaelsfeat.org.
