Pedro Toro-Casiano

Mr. Toro-Casiano, 81, of the Leonardo section of Middletown, died July 20, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. He was born in Puerto Rico. He was a carpenter and cabinet maker, and member of Union Local No. 246, Harlem, N.Y. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Free and Associated Masons Lodge No. 42, Puerto Rico. He enjoyed fishing and time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nilda Sanchez Toro; three sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Ann Marie Toro of Staten Island, N.Y., Carlos and Joanne Toro of Edison, and Joseph and Kathy Toro of Leonardo; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Zelma Toro-Burciaga and Raymond of San Francisco, Vivian and Thomas Sawyer, and Nilda and Christopher Peana, all of Staten Island, N.Y., and Rebecca Maria Toro of Adel, Ga.; and 13 grandchildren. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.

James M. Richardelli

Mr. Richardelli, 47, of Whippany, died July 20, 2007, at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Middletown prior to relocating to Whippany 1 1/2 years ago. He was a mechanic at IUEC Local No. 1, New York City, for 25 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Carmela and Anthony Richardelli; and a brother, Dennis Richardelli. He is survived by two sons, James A. and Jonathan T. Richardelli of Middletown; his former wife, Jodi Richardelli of Middletown; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Julie Ann and Ward Miller of Whippany, and Lorraine Richardelli of Fort Collins, Colo.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Maureen Richardelli of Hazlet, and Thomas and Mary Ann Richardelli of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial was at Fair View Mausoleum, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Phyllis Bishoff Duggan Remenar

Mrs. Remenar, 85, of Lakewood, died July 18, 2007, after a lengthy illness. Born in Pueblo, Colo., she had lived in New Jersey all her life and also spent time at her home in Haines City, Fla. She graduated from Leonardo High School, Leonardo section of Middletown, and was a homemaker. She was a lifetime member and active supporter of the Deborah Hospital Foundation, as well as a lifetime member of the Friendly Nighters Women's Club. Mrs. Remenar belonged to a Christian Bible study group and enjoyed dancing and crocheting. She was predeceased by her first husband, Gerald C. Duggan Sr., in 1970. Surviving are her second husband, Joseph Remenar; seven children and their spouses, Frank and Barbara Duggan of Freehold, Sharon and Wilhelm Fischer of Berkeley Heights, Kathleen and Robert Krueger of Fair Haven, Trish and Robert Patten of Middletown, Linda and Ron Hague of Chattanooga, Tenn., Irene and Thomas Cunningham of Old Bridge, and Joseph and Donna Remenar of Lynden, Wash.; four siblings and their spouses, Lois and Raymond Richardson of Whiting, Shirley and George Penfield of Bossier City, La., Frank and Joan Bishoff of Cascade, Va., and Richard and Madeline Bishoff of South Toms River; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Burial took place at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown, with the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, in charge of arrangements. Patsy P. Caprioni

Mr. Caprioni, 83, of Freehold, died July 21, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Red Bank, he had resided in Freehold since 1945. Mr. Caprioni was a sheet-metal engineer at Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital from 1948 until his retirement in 1986. He was also an accomplished musician who performed with his band, the Pat Capri Orchestra, along the Jersey Shore. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 3rd Division, 21st Regiment. He participated and was wounded in the assault and capture of Guam, Mariana Islands, in July 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, Freehold. He was a life member of the Philip A. Reynolds Marine Detachment of the Marine Corps League, as well as a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local No. 399. Mr. Caprioni was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Mulholland Caprioni, in 2005 and a sister, Mary. Surviving are four sons and two daughters-in-law, Barry and Barbara Caprioni of Wellington, Fla., Bruce Caprioni and Craig Caprioni, both of Freehold, and Patrick and Clemenza Caprioni of Wayne; a brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Rena Caprioni of Matawan; a sister-in-law, Irene McCormick of Freehold; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Marine Corps League services were held July 24. The funeral liturgy was celebrated the next day at St. Rose of Lima Church, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold Township. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

Eugene MacDonald Brown

Mr. Brown, 78, of Hazlet, died July 24, 2007, at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided in Hazlet since 1959. He was a retiree of Solomon Brothers Incorporated, New York City. He served with the U.S. Army from 1950-52. He served on the Hazlet Township Committee, and was chairman of the Hazlet Township Library for 25 years. He was a communicant of Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Union Beach, where he was also a former CCD instructor, director of religious education, and lector. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald and Alexander Brown. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary A. Kirincich Brown; four daughters and one son-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" Esposito, Margaret "Marge" Caldes, Catherine Rossi and Barbara and Thomas Sanna; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Ellen Brown, and Robert and Nancy Brown; three sisters, Doris Cetrangelo, Audrey Eccleston and Margaret Brown; five brothers, Ralph Brown, Thomas Brown, Charles Brown, Sheldon Brown and Harry Brown; and 15 grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at Holy Family Church. Entombment was at Holmdel Mausoleum. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Frances Murphy Leone

Mrs. Leone, 66, of Middletown, died July 21, 2007. Born in Union Beach, she resided in Point Pleasant, and Greensboro, N.C., prior to relocating to New Jersey. She was benefits administrator at Leading Hotels of the World, New York City. Prior to that, she was employed at Sears Credit Department, Greensboro, N.C. She was a communicant of St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, New York City. She was activities in several charities such as CARE. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Joseph Leone in 1986. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and John Davidson of Middletown. A memorial service will be held Arrangements were by The Worden-Hoidal Funeral Home, Red Bank.

Salvatore "Sal" A. Adelfio

Mr. Adelfio, 82, of Marlboro, died July 22, 2007, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had lived in Old Bridge and South River before moving to Marlboro three years ago. Prior to retiring, he was the co-owner of and an instructor at the Technical Career Institute, Manhattan, N.Y., for more than 40 years. Mr. Adelfio was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Old Bridge and its Holy Name Society, as well as a church lector. He was also president of the Holy Name Society at St. Stephen's Church, South River, where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He was a member of the American Legion and the Amateur Radio Society. Surviving are his wife, Anita; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Steve and Pat Adelfio and Joe and Karen Adelfio, all of Old Bridge, and Sal Adelfio and Mike and Ona Adelfio, all of Freehold; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Robb McQuade of Holmdel, and Mary and Joe Rizzo of Howell; two brothers, Andy Adelfio of South Carolina and Joseph Adelfio of Florida; a sister, Theresa Correale of Manalapan; and 12 grandchildren. Services were held at the Michael Hegarty Funeral Home, Old Bridge, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Interment took place at Forest Green Park Cemetery, Marlboro. Howard James Montgomery

Mr. Montgomery, 77, of Manahawkin, died July 3, 2007, in Greenville, S.C. Born in Queens, N.Y., he had lived in Manahawkin for six years and had previously resided in Whiting, Manalapan, Staten Island, N.Y., Brooklyn, N.Y., and Queens. He was a service manager for IBM in Cranford and New York City. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served during the Korean War as a machinist mate on the USS Des Moines CA-134, whose nickname was the "Daisy Mae." He was a former fire chief of the Gordons Corner Fire Company, Manalapan. He also enjoyed gardening and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. Mr. Montgomery was predeceased by his wife, Janet (DeGorter) Montgomery, in 1997, as well as a brother, James Montgomery. Surviving are four daughters, Janet Christensen of West Keansburg, Marie SanSoucie of Sunbright, Tenn., Irene Smrkovsky of Little Egg Harbor and Christine Reed of Matlacha Isles, Fla.; three sons, Edward Montgomery of Collingswood, Howard Montgomery of Atlanta and Scott Montgomery of Simpsonville, S.C.; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held at Bay View Cemetery, Leonardo section of Middletown. The John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, was in charge of arrangements. William Gillen

Mr. Gillen, 65, of Hazlet, died July 24, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Philadelphia, he resided there prior to relocating to Hazlet 32 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Perkins Gillen; and a daughter, Cheryl Gillen of Hazlet. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Beverly F. Rickman

Mrs. Rickman, 76, of Middletown died July 28, 2007, at home. She resided in the River Plaza section of Middletown, and Riverside Heights prior to relocating to Middletown. She was a bookkeeper, and homemaker. She attended First Baptist Church of Red Bank. She also served as the church's treasurer 25 years, and was a deaconess and member of the Tuesday Singers. She enjoyed sailing, travel and snowmobiling. She is survived by her husband, John Rickman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Rickman-Grant and William Grant, and Diane Rickman-Davis and Calvin Davis; a son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Pamela Rickman; a sister, Lois Campbell; and five grandchildren. A funeral service was held at First Baptist Church. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Frank Sharabba

Mr. Sharabba of Eatontown died July 17, 2007, in Eatontown. He was born in New York. He was a self-employed barber and owner of Marascio's in the Red Bank area. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was a life member of Shrewsbury First Aid Squad. He was a former member of the National Barbers Association. He was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn; his wife, Mary; four brothers, Tony, Jasper, Rosario and Joe; and two sisters, Concetta Williams and Frances Rineri. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Debbie Sharabba of Playa del Rey, Calif., and Raymond and Colleen Sharabba of Highlands; two daughters and one son-in-law, Pam and Richard Lillie of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Linda Sharabba of Red Bank; a stepdaughter, Rosalie Scaccia and her husband, Donald of Dallas; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony's Church. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank.

Katherine Rita Schroeder

Mrs. Schroeder, 72, of Hazlet, died July 27, 2007, at home following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in New York City, she resided in Commack, N.Y., prior to relocating to Hazlet 45 years ago. She was employed in sales at Charles of the Ritz, Hazlet, retiring in 1996. Prior to that, she was a salesperson at Rickels, Hazlet. She was a communicant of St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. She enjoyed the beach, needlework, classic movies and reading. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Edward H. Schroeder Jr. in 2004; and two brothers, Joseph and Francis Alexander. She is survived by six daughters and three sons-in-law, Eve and Joe Findeis of Lakewood, Calif., Janet and Jerry Pomar of Whiting, Leslie Schroeder of Hazlet, Laura and Frank Cristell of Wall, Mary Schroeder of Brick, and Kelly Schroeder of Atlantic Highlands; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Cassie Schroeder III of Hazlet; and nine grandchildren. Marion Beatrice Dunn Freyberger

Mrs. Freyberger, 98, of Middletown, died July 28, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Detroit, she resided in Newark and Chatham prior to relocating to Middletown nine years ago. She was a first grade teacher in Madison and Chatham for 30 years. She also wrote stories, articles, and poems, and a children's column for a Chatham newspaper. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Madison. She was a member of Chatham Fish and Game Club. She was a 10-year volunteer at Overlook Hospital, Summit. She enjoyed golf, reading, and artistic painting. She was predeceased by her husband, Bob Freyberger in 1994; and a son, Jack in 1989. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Anne and Lee J. Morris of Middletown; two grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. Visitation will be Aug. 2 from 10-11:30 a.m., with a prayer service at 11:30 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Mary Louise Pat Briscese Geiger

Mrs. Geiger of Keyport died July 29, 2007, at home. Born in Keyport, she was a lifelong resident. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Geiger in 1988, a retired Chief of Police of Keyport; three brothers, Mauro Briscese, Dominick Briscese and Michael Briscese; and a sister, Ann Fetta. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Christina Geiger of Lucedale, Miss., and Kevin and Colleen Geiger of Middletown; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Aug. 2 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Aug. 3 at 9:15 a.m. at St. Joseph's church, followed by interment at the church's cemetery.

Marie J. Servello Tomchak

Mrs. Tomchak, 57, of Middletown, died July 19, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Teaneck, she resided Bayonne prior to relocating to Middletown 27 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Middletown. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; two daughters and one son-in-law, Deborah and Mark Byrne, and Christine Shea, all of Middletown; a son, Joseph V. Tomchak of Providence, R.I.; a brother, Angelo Servello of Lakewood; a sister, Barbara Alongi of Carteret; and three grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Catherine's Church. Entombment was at Holmdel Mausoleum. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

Katherine "Kay" Costello Welch

Mrs. Welch, 81, of Tinton Falls, died July 19, 2007, at home. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, she resided in Tinton Falls the past 37 years. She was a program analyst at Fort Monmouth, Eatontown, retiring in 1987, and also prior to her marriage. She was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Parish, Fort Monmouth, where she was a member of the Catholic Women of the Chapel. She enjoyed the beach, genealogy, Irish music, cooking and writing poetry. Her memberships included the Monmouth County Historical Association, Ocean Township Historical Society, and Monmouth County Genealogy Society. She also volunteered for Tinton Falls Schools PTA Board, American Red Cross, and American Cancer Society. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was predeceased by her husband, Louis in 1999; and two sisters, Barbara Raab in 1993, and her twin, Ellen Betzko in 1992. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Carlos Castello of Belmont, Mass., and Kathy and Bob Sukiennik of Shrewsbury; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Dodie Welch of Red Bank, and Gene and Trish Welch of the Locust section of Middletown; and seven grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was at the Fort Monmouth Post Chapel. Interment was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. Alice T. Policastro Larsen

Mrs. Larsen, 84, of Hazlet, died July 20, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Deans, she resided in Perth Amboy prior to relocating to Hazlet 15 years ago. She was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, John in 1999; two daughters, Judy Fiala in 2000, and Carol Sue Larsen in 1989; and a brother, Charles Policastro. She is survived by a son-in-law, Dennis Fiala of Hazlet; two sisters, Lillian Savage of Asbury Park, and Dorothy Jensen of Sayreville; a brother, Joseph Policastro of King, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Helen Policastro of Woodbridge, and Kay Policastro; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Interment was at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Robert J. Luciane

Mr. Luciane, 85, of Hazlet, died July 20, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Scranton, Pa., he resided in Newark prior to relocating to Hazlet 40 years ago. He was a forklift operator at Charles of the Ritz, Holmdel, for 20 years, retiring in 1986. Prior to that, he was employed at Crucible Steel, Newark, for several years. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and received a Bronze Star. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. He was predeceased by a son, Robert Jr.; and a daughter, Joan Luciane. He is survived by his wife, Ruth MacArthur Luciane; and a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Carol Luciane of Hayes, Va. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's Church, followed by burial at the church's cemetery. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.
