Collection for needy kids under way at church
The mission outreach at Holmdel Community Church, 40 Main St., is collecting back to school donations for needy children through Oct. 3.
Needed are boys or girls jeans, slacks and tops size seven through 18 and junior sizes; boys and girls socks (no knee highs); boys boxer shorts and girls underwear sizes seven through 18; and men's jeans size 29-36 waist, and boxer shorts size 30-36. Also needed are $ 15 gift certificates to Payless Shoes. Financial donations are also accepted.
A "Prayer and Share Circle" Sept. 16 from 9-9:45 a.m. Attendees will listen to scripture, and to share "ups and downs." The South African singing group Thula Sizwe will provide music during the service, and will be in concert Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. The Christian inspirational group performs South African singing styles, traditional Zulu songs, hymns and spiritual melodies. A free-will offering will be collected.
"Africa Sunday" will be Sept. 23 during service, and feature church member Sylvia Allen. Allen led a delegation in June to visit the orphanage in Uganda she supports through Sylvia's Children. She will share her trip via slides and stories, as well as drums and costumes and musical instruments she brought back. Music for the service will be provided by Thula Sizwe.
