Phyllis Bishoff Duggan Remenar
Mrs. Remenar, 85, of Lakewood, died July 18, 2007, after a lengthy illness. Born in Pueblo, Colo., she had lived in Middletown for approximately 30 years and also spent time at her home in Haines City, Fla. She graduated from Leonardo High School, Leonardo section of Middletown, and was a homemaker. She was a lifetime member and active supporter of the Deborah Hospital Foundation, as well as a lifetime member of the Friendly Nighters Women's Club. Mrs. Remenar belonged to a Christian Bible study group and enjoyed dancing and crocheting. She was predeceased by her first husband, Gerald C. Duggan Sr., in 1970. Surviving are her second husband, Joseph Remenar; nine children and their spouses, Frank and Barbara Duggan of Freehold, Sharon and Wilhelm Fischer of Berkeley Heights, Kathleen and Robert Krueger of Fair Haven, Marilyn and Dominic Tarantino of Howell, Gerald and Nancy Duggan of Bayville, Trish and Robert Patten of Middletown, Linda and Ron Hague of Chattanooga, Tenn., Irene and Thomas Cunningham of Old Bridge, and Joseph and Donna Remenar of Lynden, Wash.; four siblings and their spouses, Lois and Raymond Richardson of Whiting, Shirley and George Penfield of Bossier City, La., Frank and Joan Bishoff of Cascade, Va., and Richard and Madeline Bishoff of South Toms River; 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Burial took place at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown, with the John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Pezzutti, 83, of Middletown, died Aug. 6, 2007. Born in Jersey City, she resided in Nutley and Montclair prior to relocating to the Monmouth County area. She taught art at Lacordaire Academy, Montclair, and the Yard School of Art, part of the Montclair Museum. She was a member of the Art Alliance of Monmouth County, and Guild of Creative Art, Shrewsbury. Her paintings were featured in several one-woman shows statewide, and she won several prizes for her artwork including first prize in the Monmouth Museum State Show. She enjoyed sailing and bridge. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Daniel Doherty. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Santo; three daughters, Carol Lenehan, Diane Cuttino and Lynn Mickelsen; a son, Paul Pezzutti; a sister, Mary Eileen Kelly; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Miss Berkquist, 58, of Hazlet, died Aug. 7, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Jersey City, she resided there prior to relocating to Hazlet 25 years ago. She was a logistics manager of corporate global logistics at Sun Chemical, Parsippany, for 20 years. She was a member of the Traffic Club of New Jersey. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Doris King Berkquist. She is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and John Gilligan of Hazlet, and Joann and Anthony Lander of Aberdeen; a niece; and a nephew. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Mr. Eckhoff, 58, of Manahawkin, died Aug. 9, 2007, at home. He was born in Jersey City. He was a game surveyor for National Marine Fisheries Service, Manahawkin. He was an avid fisherman. He was predeceased by his parents, Gerard and Veronica McKenna Eckhoff. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Doty Eckhoff; a son, Joseph Gerold Eckhoff; two daughters and one son-in-law, Amanda Slockbower of Toms River, and Kimberly Slockbower and Kevin Forse of Manahawkin; a sister, Mary Beth Quinn of the Belford section of Middletown; and six grandchildren. Mr. Brant, 61, of Middletown, died Aug. 8, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He resided in the West Keansburg section of Hazlet, and Port Monmouth section of Middletown for 31 years, prior to relocating to Middletown four years ago. He was an electrician at IBEW Locals No. 52 and No. 164, and a member for 41 years. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a past captain of Port Monmouth First Aid Squad, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4303, Hazlet, and member and officer of Middletown Benevolent Protective Order of Elks No. 2179. He was also a past Webelo Learner, and Assistant Scout master. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Dowd Brant. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathleen O'Keefe Brant; a son, Robert E. Brant of Manchester; three daughters, Kathleen Brant of Keansburg, Rachael Poss of Middletown, and Sheri Salas of the Belford section of Middletown; his father, Robert Brant Sr. of Middletown; four sisters, Ellen Neely of Middletown, Carleen Campbell of Barnegat, Mary Dee Hayden of Atlantic Highlands, and Sharon Tyson of Florida; two brothers, Richard Brant of Pompton Plains, and Michael Brant of Florida; and nine grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.
