Hazlet family sings praises of Bayshore Jointure On Sept. 8, our family attended an event at Veteran's Park in Hazlet to raise autism awareness. The annual fundraiser benefits children attending the Bayshore Jointure Commission's Developmental Learning Center in Aberdeen.
The Bayshore Jointure Commission is comprised of many area towns. I can personally attest to how phenomenal this school is because my daughter was diagnosed with an autism-related disorder at 2 1/2 years old. She began the school at 3 years old. She was basically non-verbal, with no social skills or comprehensive abilities, and many of the other classic signs of autism. After two years at the Developmental Learning Center and two years in a LLD class back in our district, my daughter is now 7 years old and fully mainstreamed as a first-grader.
Early intervention is an important step towards success. But also important is to have teachers and staff members who have extensive knowledge and skills in working with children in the autism spectrum. The Bayshore Jointure Commission is unique in this respect. I will forever be grateful to them and to the Hazlet school district for being a member in the commission.
I would like to thank the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office PBA 240 for sponsoring this wonderful event that was even bigger and better than last year. We had a fantastic time!
