Dennis E. Hornig

Mr. Hornig, 57, of Keansburg, died Sept. 22, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, from complications following a stroke. Born in Red Bank, he resided in the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, prior to relocating to Keansburg 38 years ago. He was a steel welder/fabricator at US Filter, Marlboro, for 25 years, retiring in 1995. He was a member of Middletown Elks No. 2179, and charter member for 25 years of Buck Fin Rod & Gun Club. He was predeceased by his father, Gustav Hornig. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Deirdre Miller Hornig; a daughter, Christine Hornig of Middletown; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dennis and Jackie Hornig Jr. of Union Beach, and Jeremy Hornig of Keansburg; his mother, Mae Hornig of Port Monmouth; three brothers, David Hornig of Keansburg, Donald Hornig of Toms River, and David Hornig of Saylorsburg, Pa.; three sisters, Debbie Hornig of Port Monmouth, Darlene Sovinski of Bushkill, Pa., and Dawn Thacke of Middletown; and a granddaughter. Visitation will be Sept. 26 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. A funeral service will be Sept. 27 at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a funeral liturgy at 9:15 a.m. at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

Mary E. Rudloff Thompson

Mrs. Thompson, 69, of Middletown, died Sept. 23, 2007, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she resided in Matawan prior to relocating to Middletown five years ago. She was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Middletown. She was a member of the Monmouth County Democratic Club, and past president of Rebecca's Reel Quilters. She was predeceased by her father, Francis Rudloff; and her husband, Joseph Thompson in 2006. She is survived by her mother, Margaret McNamara Rudloff; two daughter and one son-inlaw, Robin and Bob Marella of Hazlet, and Lynn Thompson of Middletown; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Jacqueline Thompson of Matawan; a sister, Jean Eschenauer of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Roddy Rudloff of Brooklyn, and Eddie Rudloff of Queens, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Sept.26 at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine's Church. Interment will follow at St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Marlboro. Arrangements are by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Maureen A. Morgan

Mrs. Morgan, 75, of Tinton Falls, died Sept. 6, 2007, at Regency Park, Hazlet. She resided in Woodlawn, and Brewster, N.Y., prior to relocating to Tinton Falls. She was an administrative assistant for several years at New York Medical College, Valhalla, retiring in 1994. She is survived by her husband, James P. Morgan; three sons and two daughters in-law, John R. and Kathy Brunner of Nesconsett, N.Y., Thomas W. and Maureen Brunner of Middletown, and James Morgan of New Rochelle, N.Y.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Chris Daly of Basking Ridge, and Margaret and Bill Schuyler of Stanfordville, N.Y.; a brother, Frank Dougherty of Florida; a sister Margaret Fitzsimmons of Brielle; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank. Interment was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. John "Jack" Allen Hurlbert

Mr. Hurlbert, 84, of Freehold Township, died Aug. 16, 2007, at Pine Brook Care Center, Manalapan. He and his family had lived in Helmetta during the Great Depression, and he was a graduate of Jamesburg High School. Mr. Hurlbert enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 1, 1943, and was honorably discharged on July 2, 1946, having served as a lieutenant junior grade aboard the USS Kershaw and USS Crockett, transporting U.S. Marines to many landings in the Asiatic-Pacific area. On April 1, 1945, he participated in the demonstration assault landing on the southeastern beaches of Okinawa Jima, Ryukyu Retto, Japan. He became a member of the Order of the Golden Dragon on Feb. 15, 1945, after crossing the International Date Line (roughly along 180 degrees longitude), and on June 10, 1945, he crossed the equator. A graduate of Rutgers University, New Brunswick, Mr. Hurlbert earned a bachelor of science degree in economics in 1947 and a master of business administration degree in finance in 1953. He began his banking career with Chase National Bank in New York City in August 1947 and became a country banker with Central National Bank in June 1948. He retired in 1987 from First Fidelity Bank, where he was vice president since 1969. He was a longtime member of First Church of Christ Scientist, Freehold and Keyport, serving as first reader, treasurer and clerk. Mr. Hurlbert was past president of and an instructor for the American Institute of Banking's Monmouth chapter, past president and trustee of the Monmouth County Bankers and the Clearing House Association, charter treasurer of the Freehold Jaycees, former committeeman for the Battleground District of Monmouth Council Boy Scouts of America, charter vice president of the Battleground Arts Center, member of the Monmouth County Board of Agriculture, a 50- year master mason of the Free and Accepted Masons, Olive Branch No. 16, a member and Paul Harris Fellow of the Freehold Rotary Club, charter treasurer of the Keyport Historical Society, and past president of both the Keyport Chamber of Commerce and the Kiwanis Club of Keyport. He was also a member of the Battleground Historical Society, the Rutgers Alumni Association and the Rutgers Oral History Archives. Mr. Hurlbert was an avid golfer and skier, a devoted fan of the Rutgers basketball and football teams, and an ardent reader of books about Abraham Lincoln and Winston S. Churchill. In 2004 he reluctantly sold his ancestors' farm in Petersburg, N.Y., which had been in the family for more than 200 years. Surviving are his wife, Betty Jane Erickson Hurlbert, whom he married in January 1973; his mother-in-law, Teressa C. Erickson; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth M. Walling of Keyport; and many cousins. A memorial service was held at First Church of Christ Scientist, Freehold, with Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, in charge of arrangements. Joseph F. Harrison Sr.

Mr. Harrison, 87, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, died Sept. 11, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Philadelphia, he resided inn Lincroft for approximately 50 years. He was an accountant officer manager at NJ American Water Company for more than 35 years, retiring in 1982. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Middletown, and Knights of Columbus Chapter No. 3187, Red Bank. He was predeceased by his first wife, Doris Harper in 1968; and his wife, Margaret Thornton in 2005. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Susan Harrison of Nutley; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Emily and Bruce Schalk of Whiting; four grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Leo The Great Roman Catholic Church, Lincroft. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

Robert W. Johnson

Mr. Johnson, 63, of Middletown, died Sept. 21, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in North Arlington, he resided there, Westwood and Atlantic Highlands, prior to relocating to Middletown 21 years ago. He was a district manager at Bell Atlantic, and several assignments at AT&T and Bell Communications Research, retiring in 1991. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Navesink section of Middletown. He was a member of the Train Collectors Association, Tin Can Sailors Association, and Oughtred Society. He is survived by his wife, Ilona Johnson; two daughters, Cheryl Snyder and Doreen Johnson; a brother and sister-in-law, Ken and Diann; and a granddaughter. Arrangements were by John F. Thomas E. Kilfoyle

Mr. Kilfoyle, 84, of Middletown, died Sept. 13, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he resided there prior to relocating to Middletown in 1992. He was a retired member of Forrest Electric Local No. 3, where he was employed 35 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard thee aircraft carrier USS Solomons in the European Theatre. He was a charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown. He was predeceased by his wife, Mildred A. Kilfoyle in 20006; two brothers; and three sisters. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Mark Spektor of Milford, Conn., Coleen and Arthur Fournier of Hazlet, and Edith and Christopher Foley of Middletown; and five grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. Burial was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John E. Walter S. Styczynski

Mr. Styczynski, 88, of Marlboro, died Sept. 13, 2007, at home. He was born in Adams, Mass., and had lived in Brooklyn, N.Y., before moving to Marlboro 20 years ago. Prior to retiring in 1983, he was a maintenance supervisor for Con Edison, Manhattan, N.Y., for 35 years. Mr. Styczynski served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, Marlboro. He was predeceased by his wife, Loretta, in 2005. Surviving are two sons and daughters in-law, Walter and Diane Styczynski of Freehold, and Roger and Marianne Styczynski of Hazlet; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Robert Siniscalchi of Manalapan; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Gabriel's Main Church, Marlboro, followed by entombment at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge. Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.

Angelina Squitieri

Mrs. Squitieri, 86, of Middletown, died Sept. 17, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Bellville, she resided in Middletown the past 54 years. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth section of Middletown. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, Port Monmouth section of Middletown. She was predeceased by three brothers, Anthony, Joseph and Sammy Sica; and two sisters, Nancy Carsillo and Catherine Viggiani. She is survived by her husband, Raymond S. Squitieri; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marlene R. Squitieri of Middletown, and Angela Squitieri and Garlon A. Jones of Carrollton, Texas; and three sisters, Rose Zirrillo of Indianapolis, Ind., Mary Esposito of Bloomfield, and Rita Squitieri of West Palm Beach, Fla. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Mary's Church. Entombment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Robert J. Isaksen Sr.

Mr. Isaksen, 59, of the Cliffwood section of Aberdeen, died Sept. 18, 2007, at home. Born in Perth Amboy, he was a lifelong resident of Cliffwood. He was a transport truck driver at Synergy, Parlin, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, hunting and boating. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Marie Larsen Isaksen; and two brothers, Christian Isaksen and Eric Isaksen. He is survived by his wife, Helen Bienkowski Isaksen; a son, Robert J. Isaksen Jr. of Cliffwood; a daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Jeffery Mitchell of Union Beach; a brother, William Isaksen of Melbourne, Fla.; two sisters, Karen Tappin of Paterson, La., and Darlene Loccoriere of Cliffwood; and three grandchildren. A funeral service was held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Eleanor T. Schultz

Mrs. Schultz, 79, of Hazlet, died Sept.18, 2007, at home. Born in Jersey City, she resided in Bayonne prior to relocating to Hazlet one year ago. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond in 2001. She is survived by three sons, Raymond Schultz of Morris, Minn., Thomas Schultz of Hazlet, and Michael Schultz of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a daughter, Susan Bonner of Randolph; a brother, James Slattery; a sister, Barbara Bascio; and four grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was held at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown. Arrangements were by John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown.

Alexander S. Markie

Mr. Markie, 75, of Aberdeen, died Sept. 19, 2007, at Victoria Health Care, Matawan. Born in Scotland, he resided in Matawan prior to relocating to the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge, and Aberdeen seven years ago. He was a batch maker at Vorac, Carlstadt, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Scotch Club, Kearny. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen A. Markie; and a sister, Helen Markie. He is survived by two daughters, Michelle Pierce of Cliffwood Beach, and Helen Williams of Keasby; a son, Terry Markie of Pennsylvania; a brother, Peter Markie of Scotland; a sister, Margaret Markie of Scotland; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Norbert F. Ruff Jr.

Mr. Ruff, 46, of Hazlet, died Sept. 20, 2007, at home. Born in New Brunswick, he resided in Old Bridge prior to relocating to Hazlet 11 years ago. He was a newspaper carrier for the Asbury Park Press for 12 years. He served with the U.S. Navy on USS Kittyhawk during peacetime. He was a member of and sang in the choir at Cross of Glory Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. He was a fan of the N.Y. Giants and Mets, and was a fan of John Wayne. He was predeceased by his parents, Norbert F. and Elizabeth M. Ciccerelli Ruff Sr. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Caputo Ruff; four daughters, Robin, Kristen, Taryn and Erin Ruff, all of Hazlet; a brother, Joseph Mondoro of Jackson; and two nephews. A funeral service was held at Cross of Glory Church. Arrangements were by Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Salvatore V. Masiello

Mr. Masiello, 85, of Matawan, died Sept. 11, 2007, at his summer home in Monmouth Beach. Born in Matawan, he was a lifelong resident. He was a production supervisor at E.I. DuPont, Parlin, for 43 years, retiring in 1982. He served with thee U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a communicant of, usher at, and member of the St. Joseph Holy Name Society at St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church, Matawan. He was a former Matawan Borough councilman, and served on the Planning Board and Health Department. He was a past president of the Matawan Democratic Club, and Matawan Little League. He was an avid golfer, and shot a hole- in- one at Forsgate Country Club, Monroe. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy Berardicelli Masiello; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert and Frances of Freehold, and John of Monmouth Beach; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Edward Black of Aberdeen; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Clement's Church. Burial with military honors was at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Keyport. Arrangements were by Day funeral Home, Keyport.
