Park System's pottery classes to begin Sept. 29
Monmouth County Park System has announced it will offer pottery classes for adults at its creative arts center at Thompson Park, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown. A pottery open workshop/ wheel-throwing and hand-building class will be offered Saturdays, Sept. 29-Oct. 27 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for $72.50; or Wednesdays, Oct. 24-Dec. 5 from 7-10 p.m., $98.
The class is designed for students that can work independently either on the potter's wheel or at hand-building in a noninstructional environment. Advanced wheel-thrown pottery will be offered Tuesdays, Oct. 2-30 from 9 a.m.-noon, $82.50. Classes are for students with experience on the potter's wheel and are looking to further develop throwing skills. Fees for the above include all glazes and firing of items.
A precious metal clay workshop will be Oct. 10 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., $60 (plus $25 for additional supplies). Students will learn the basic techniques needed to produce jewelry. Advanced pottery with alternate firing will be offered Fridays, Oct. 26-Dec. 14 from 9 a.m.-noon, $133. The class is for students with experience on the potter's wheel and looking to explore advance techniques and alternative firing methods.
Parent/child programs will also be offered beginning with "Creative Claytime" for children age 4-6 with an adult Mondays, Oct. 15-Nov. 12 from 12:30-1:15 p.m., $42 per child (no class Oct. 22). "Halloween Candy Bowl" for children age 5-8 with an adult will be offered Oct. 13 from 12:30-2 p.m. or Oct. 17 from 4-5:30 p.m., $23 per pair. Attendees will decorate a ceramic candy bowl to use as a decoration or for holding treats.
Parent/child ceramics for children age 8-17 with an adult Fridays, Oct. 26-Dec. 7 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. or 7-9 p.m., $54 per person, and $36 sibling rate. Afterschool parent/child hand-built pottery for children age 8-12 with an adult will be offered Wednesdays, Oct. 24-Dec. 5 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. (no class Oct. 31), $65.50 per person, and $48 sibling rate
