Thompson Park Day, 'Strut Your Mutt,' Oct. 14

The Monmouth County Park System will hold Thompson Park Day 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 14 at Thompson Park, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown.

The free event will feature pumpkin painting, wagon rides, a scarecrow contest, climbing wall, crafts, various foods, live entertainment, costume contests and a parade at 3:45 p.m. There will also be an "amazing maize maze" in which attendees find a way through a real corn crop. The Friends of the Parks will also be holding its fourth annual fundraising "Strut Your Mutt" doggie costume contest during Thompson Park Day. There will be three contest times noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. The contest is open to dogs four months or older with vaccinations. Trophies will be awarded to first place winners in the categories of most original, scariest, funniest, prettiest and best canine/human combo. Entry fee is $15 for nonmembers of Friends, and $10 for members, with proceeds benefiting Friends of the Parks. Registered participants will also be entered in a raffle for prizes. The pet fair will feature exhibitors and supporters and demos of products and services.
