Matawan Day returns Sunday
MATAWAN - Food, rides, music and games will be the order of the day Sunday afternoon during the 17th annual Matawan Day, to be held at Terhune Park on Main Street.
While The Touch of Dance Troop, Matawan, taps the pavement on nearby Broad Street, and the voices of the Second Baptist Church Choir, Matawan, ring out, children of all ages are invited to enjoy the festivities between noon and 5 p.m.
Visitors may also wish to take out any displeasure they may have on members of Matawan's elected body, thanks to the Matawan Fire Department's dunk tank. Traditional and contemporary music will also be provided via a DJ. Vendors will provide food and desserts of many varieties. The Matawan-based theater group the Spotlight Players will also perform cameos from contemporary Broadway Shows.
For racing enthusiasts, a Formula One car will be on display throughout the afternoon, compliments of H&R Block.
A highlight of the afternoon will be the dedication of a new ball field on Broad Street at 1 p.m. According to a press release, the field will be dedicated to a longtime Matawan official, to be announced at the ceremony.
Matawan Day is sponsored annually by the Matawan Recreation Commission. For more information, contact Michael Mullaney at (732) 566-3898 or e-mail recreation@matawanborough.
