Wheel-a-thon, memorial walk Oct. 20 at Brookdale
MIDDLETOWN - The first Ryan Bell Memorial Walk and Wheel-A-Thon will be held Oct. 20 at Brookdale Community College, Lincroft.
Ryan was a student at the Schroth School of LADACIN Network for seven years, where he received education, therapy, and other services. According to a press release, Ryan's parents, Marlene and Stephen Bell of Marlboro, wanted to hold an event to commemorate the one-year passing of their son.
They will donate the profits from the event to LADACIN Network, a nonprofit organization serving children and adults with multiple physical and developmental disabilities.
The Bells remain committed to the mission of LADACIN Network. Stephen recently joined the Board of Trustees and Marlene is active in many of the fundraising committees.
"He [Ryan] went for five days a week throughout the year and every morning when that bus would pull in our driveway to pick him up he would get all excited," Bell said, recalling Ryan's years at the Schroth School. "Marlene and I have always been very active in LADACIN Network and were often at Ryan's school. In addition to the quality of the services provided, the commitment of the teachers, therapists and staff to the children and adults they serve is extraordinary. The courage and spirit of those children and adults is equally extraordinary."
Last year more than $8,000 was raised in Ryan's memory, according to the press release. The money was used to purchase computer equipment and other equipment for classrooms at the Schroth School, Ocean Township.
The walk and wheel-a-thon will take place at Larrison Hall at Brookdale Community College, Route 520, Lincroft, at 2 p.m. Oct. 20. Registration is at 1:30 p.m. For more information on the event or to make a donation to the Ryan Bell Memorial Fund, call community relations at (732) 493-5900 or go to www.ladacin.org.
