Campaign tactics posed a safety risk to motorists
As I drove along Route 35 in Middletown this past Sunday, I noticed a commotion at the intersection of New Monmouth Road. To my astonishment, it was Committeeman Patrick Short and several others holding signs, waving at cars and running into the road. I had read about Mr. Short's bizarre antics, but this is the first time I've seen it with my own eyes.

Do Mr. Short and the Democrat candidates have any idea how dangerous their actions were? Are they willing to put the lives of Middletown motorists and pedestrians at risk for such a cheap publicity stunt? Do they really think that Middletown voters are so shallow and ignorant as to overlook their inadequacies and vote for them based on such a childish act?

Serving in local government is a very with intelligence and ideas to confront the many challenges that we as a township face. It also calls for individuals of maturity and integrity to act as our representatives.

It is appalling to think that individuals willing to act in such a buffoonish manner could actually end up on the Township Committee. Our town deserves much better than what was exhibited at one of the busiest intersections in the township. The judgment shown by Mr. Short and the Democrat candidates was reckless, juvenile and a slap in the face to the electoral process. I hope my fellow citizens will keep this in mind come Election Day.
