Winter directory available from Park System The Monmouth County Park System will release the winter issue of its directory Nov. 1. It features details about special events and nature, recreation and sports programs for December-February. Registration for winter programs begins Nov. 7 at 8 a.m. The issue is available at most county parks and online at www.monmouthcountyparks. com. The Park System has announced openings still exist in art classes at its creative arts center at Thompson Park, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown. Raku for advanced students will be held Mondays, Nov. 5-Dec. 10 from 1-4 p.m., $114 per person. Advanced wheel-thrown pottery will be held Tuesdays, Nov. 6-Dec. 11 from 9 a.m.- noon, $96 fee. The class is for students experienced on the potter's wheel looking to further develop throwing skills. A precious metal clay workshop will be Nov. 7 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., $60 fee. The class teaches basic techniques needed to produce jewelry. Students should bring $25 for additional supplies. Wheel-thrown and hand-built pottery will be held Wednesdays, Nov. 7-Dec. 12 from 9 a.m.-noon, or 1-4 p.m., $96 fee for either session. Students will learn how to center, throw and trim items of pottery. "Thanksgiving Serving Plate" for children age 5-8 with an adult will be Nov. 7 from 4-5:30 p.m. Attendees will create a ceramic serving plate for the holiday table, $23 per pair. A pottery open workshop/ wheel-throwing and hand-building will be held Saturdays, Nov. 10-Dec. 15 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., or 3-6 p.m., $84 fee for either session. A class for students able to work independently either on the potter's wheel or at hand-building in a noninstructional environment. "Children's Handbuilt Pottery" for children age 10-17 will be offered Saturdays, Nov. 10-Dec. 15 from 9-11 a.m., $90 per person. Students will learn different methods to hand build with clay.
