Films, military archive, concerts at library

Middletown Township Main Library, 55 New Monmouth Road, will show three classic World War II films during November, beginning Nov. 2 with "Air Force" starring John Garfield, John Ridgely and Gig Young. "The Guns of Navarone" with Gregory Peck and Anthony Quinn will be shown Nov. 9; and "From Here to Eternity" with Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift and Frank Sinatra will be shown Nov. 16. All films begin at 2 p.m., and cookies and coffee will follow each.

The library's Teen Council will honor the memory and service of the men and women who served in the U.S. military from World War II through the present by creating an audio and photo archive to create a record of military service memories. The archive is also designed to preserve the camaraderie that developed and endures among the soldiers.

Local veterans are encouraged to visit the library on Veterans Day, Nov. 12, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., to contribute memories, photos and war-related memorabilia. Audio segments will be approximately 20 minutes in length, and as many as three photos may be scanned. Photos and memorabilia will be returned immediately. Light refreshments will be served. The archive will be stored at the library, and the veterans' recordings will also be put on Podcast. Appointments are recommended, and may be made by calling (732) 671-3700, ext. 320 or e-mail to tac@mtpl.org.

The library's "Emerging Artists Series" will begin Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by local singer-songwriter James Dalton. Singer Adam Acuragi will perform Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. Dalton has been recognized by the Asbury Music Awards, and 90.5 The Night. Acuragi and his band will perform his gospel-flavored original songs. All performances are free and open to the public.

Forinformation, call (732) 671-3700.
