Park System offers ceramics classes this fall
Monmouth County Park System is offering an array of classes at its creative arts center at Thompson Park, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft section of Middletown. Openings still exist in several programs.
Adult ceramics will be offered Thursdays from 9 a.m.-noon, Nov. 1- Dec. 13, $66 per person (no class Nov. 22). Students will learn techniques and skills for decorating and glazing slip cast items. Advanced wheel-thrown pottery for adults will be offered Thursdays from 7-10 p.m., Nov. 1-Dec. 13, $105 per person. Classes are for students that have experience on the potter's wheel.
Pottery - open workshop/wheel throwing and hand-building for adults is offered Thursdays from 9 a.m.-noon, Nov. 1-Dec. 13, $84 per person (no class Nov. 22). The class is designed for students who are able to work independently either on the potter's wheel or at hand building. Louis Mendez - "Spanish Hand-building Techniques" will be Nov. 3 and 4 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., $175 per person. Students will explore approaches to creating masks, sculpture, decorative and functional pieces using Mendez's techniques. Parent/child "Pottery Without a Wheel" for children age 10-17 with an adult will be Nov. 3 from 12:30-3:30 p.m., $18 per person. Students will learn the slab method of handbuilding with clay.
