Waste issue needs to be eradicated in Hazlet Hazlet dog walkers, we have a problem. I know there are many dogs being walked throughout the township. It is evident by the amount of dog waste that is being left everywhere. I had hoped that people would have more respect for their fellow man when it came to man's best friend. Apparently it does not.
I walk my two dogs every morning and I have no problem picking up after them. They are my dogs, which are my responsibility. If every dog walker had that same sentiment, this would not be a problem. I make sure I carry enough bags with me when I leave my house to walk the dogs. The people that don't pick up have no conscience. It is a rude and despicable person that would allow their dog to deposit its waste in front of someone's home and not think a second about it.
I have noticed the problem a lot along Beers Street between Bethany Road and Beers Street School. It is common to also see it on the "animal streets" - Deer, Beaver, Otter, Mallard and Raccoon. This is very disturbing to me because that is where I walk my dogs. I constantly have to pull my dogs away from spots along our route because of something left behind by other dogs.
As far as my vigilance is concerned, I am always on the lookout for someone who does not pick up after their dog. One example of that is something that happened a few weeks ago. I was stopped at the light at Beers Street and Bethany Road waiting to make a right turn onto Beers Street. There were probably 10 or so cars behind me. To my left I spotted a man with two dogs on the grass. One of his dogs did his business and the man started to walk away. I yelled from the car that he should pick up after his dog. He tried to ignore me at first but I yelled a couple of more times. He turned around and shrugged, pulled a bag from his pocket and proceeded to pick up after his dog. Why wouldn't he have just picked it up in the first place; he had a bag with him. If I hadn't said anything he would have just left. My intention was to embarrass him and I hope I did.
We need help with this problem that plagues our streets. Please pick up after your dogs. If you let a child walk your dogs, explain to them what needs to be done. Hopefully everyone does their part and this disgusting issue will be eradicated.
