Legal immigrants entitled to pursue American dream
Ms. Shirley Heredia, in support of "undocumented" immigrants, suggests we look to Ellis Island for recognition that we are a nation of immigrants ("Narrow mindedness towards immigrants saddens reader," Oct. 24). I wish to remind Ms. Heredia that the only reason we can look to Ellis Island for reference is because the immigrants who passed through there were processed, inspected and documented by the federal government upon their arrival. They were legal immigrants.

Ms. Heredia would like us to believe that illegal immigrants are contributing their share towards their education by paying property taxes when they pay their rent. More often than not, several families live in one residence, pay one rent, and send their combined children to school - where additional resources are required to fulfill the "moral and legal obligation to educate" them.

America is a beautiful country, extending open arms to those who wait for years to come here legally. These are the immigrants who are truly entitled to pursue the American dream.
