LWV 'Running & Winning Workshop' huge success
In May the Greater Red Bank Area League of Women Voters, Red Bank Chapter of Hadassah, Junior League of Monmouth County and the Northern Monmouth Branch of the American Association of University Women worked together to sponsor, plan and provide volunteers for the first "Running and Winning Workshop" held in Monmouth County.

At this free, all-day event, 60 young women in their junior year of high school attended the program at Monmouth Regional High School. They had opportunities to network, develop decision-making skills and be mentored by women in government while learning some of the intricacies of the political process. Working in small groups, they crafted a "mini" campaign for a congresswoman by choosing a position on a pre-selected nonpartisan issue, developing publicity materials, and writing and delivering a candidate's speech.

We wish to thank Monmouth Regional High School for providing the facilities and their photo club advisers and students for handling our photographic needs. Also the many women in government who served as role models for the students, and the individuals and businesses that provided in-kind and cash donations that made this event possible.

Due to the positive feedback from everyone involved, and the willingness of Monmouth Regional High School to again host us, the second "Running & Winning Workshop" is scheduled for May 2.

Anyone interested in learning more about this event, making taxdeductible contributions or assisting the sponsoring groups in other ways can contact Barbara Goldstein at (732) 542-0824 or e-mail bobbiegold@ comcast.net.
