Bayshore region is habitually neglected
Since its inception in 2002, the Hazlet Area Quality of Life Alliance (HAQLA) - like the governing bodies of Hazlet and Holmdel Townships, has kept abreast of the far-toolong delay of the Monmouth County project proposal to make improvements at the intersection of Holmdel and Bethany Roads. Holmdel Road is a Monmouth County roadway (CR4) and the centerline of Bethany Road marks the borderline between the two townships at this location.

The proposed project has been on the drawing boards for many years and in a letter dated June 21, 2006, the county engineer admits to over $100,000 being spent for consulting, surveying and engineering work toward the plans and specifications. The then-offered status report also called for acquisition of rights-ofway from 18 properties needed for road widening, to be completed over the winter of 2006-07, and for construction to start in the spring of 2007.

HAQLA has been requesting an updated status report for the past five months, but we have received no response from County Engineer, Joseph M. Ettore, to our written inquiries dated June 16, and Sept. 24, 2007, copies of which were sent to the Monmouth County freeholders and the county administrator.

Is this just another Monmouth County project that does not get the attention it should because it is located in the habitually neglected Bayshore?
