Rock the halls! Upstairs opera, downstairs rock. On a recent afternoon, those were the sounds coming from the Count Basie Theatre's Cool School classes. In the Basie studio space, aspiring opera singers attended a master class with Michael Capasso, general director for Dicapo Opera Theatre. The 90- minute workshop allowed students to perform opera selections and be critiqued. Capasso explained the audition process and what it takes to make it in the opera business. At the other end of the building, the Rockit for Kids students were doing just that - rockin' - as part of the program which gives young musicians an opportunity to perform together as a rock band. The Count Basie Theatre Cool School is located at 99 Monmouth St. in Red Bank.
