      The Toms RiverHigh SchoolNorth Gold Wind Symphony will host the Central Jersey Wind Ensemble in a benefit concert for the Denise Hughes Memorial Scholarship Fund on May 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the high school, 1245 Old Freehold Road. The fund was established at Brookdale Community College, where Denise, who succumbed to cancer recently, was a chemistry lab instructor. Her daughter Susanne, band director at Lloyd Road School,Matawan, will play clarinet, and her twins Kelly and Frank Jr. will sing various selections.       Keyport Historical Society will host "Fossils in Monmouth County" presented by Dr. Paul Kowalski on May 5 at 8 p.m. at Steamboat Dock Museum, Keyport.       Aberdeen Township Public Works Department is now collectingAmerican flags that are no longer suitable for display for distribution to organizations that perform approved disposal ceremonies. Any American flag that is worn, damaged or tattered beyond repair should be retired in a respectful and dignified manner. The preferred method is burning, which signifies purification and rebirth. Flags may be dropped at the Public Works Garage on Lenox Road weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., or on the third Saturday of themonth from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Flags should be placed in the mail box marked "Flags."       Knights of Columbus, Vincent T. Lombardi Council, Middletown, will host the second annual "Run for Vocations" as part of the New Jersey Marathon on May 4, to raise awareness about the need for vocations and to raise funds for the Diocese of Trenton's Sacred Heart House of Priestly Formation. The four-man relay team will take to the streets of Long Branch and Monmouth Beach to run or walk a portion of the 26.2-mile race.
