Assistant principal named at Holmdel HS HOLMDEL - A new assistant principal of Holmdel High School was named at the June 25 Board of Education meeting. Kevin Bals, of Brick, was appointed by a unanimous vote, and his position as assistant principal will be effective July 1. According to the superintendent's office, Bals will receive $105,000 yearly. "He was an outstanding candidate with excellent credentials," said Superintendent Barbara Duncan of the new assistant principal. "He will be an asset to our high school and the entire district. We welcome him and wish him great success. He is joining a wonderful and talented team of administrators." According to a press release from the district, Bals is currently employed by Colts Neck High School as supervisor of mathematics. Prior to his employment with Colts Neck High School, Bals served as the coordinator for educational technology in the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional School District. According to the release, Bals has taught science, mathematics and computer science over a 16-year period. As supervisor of the math department at Colts Neck High School, the release states that Bals taught two inclusion courses and his responsibilities included budgeting, scheduling classes, handling academic disputes with students and parents, and supervision and evaluation of staff. With the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional School District, Bals was accountable for all of the district's technology resources. The release from the Holmdel School District also states that Bals worked with the Rumson-Fair Haven administration developing district technology policies, assisting department supervisors with integrating technology into their instructional practices, budgeting, bidding and completing large infrastructure projects with the business administrator, educating the child study team on assistive technology devices and attending IEP meetings to set appropriate goals. The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional School district developed a learning environment that utilized tablet PCs, wireless LCD projectors, and a campuswide wireless network while Bals was coordinator of educational technology. Bals replaces William Loughran, a 20-year veteran at Holmdel High, who assumed leadership of the high school from interim Principal C. Arthur Albrizio by a unanimous vote at the April 9 Board of Education meeting. The next Board of Education meeting will take place July 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the William R. Satz School. |
