Pair of fundraisers planned Two ways to enjoy the outdoors and further a good cause are coming up during the third week of September when 180 Turning Lives Around holds back-to-back fundraisers to benefit the Monmouth County nonprofit, which is dedicated to ending domestic violence and sexual abuse. Starting at noon on Sept. 21, 180 Turning Lives Around is hosting a Family Fun Polo Match and Picnic Party, when families can enjoy a casual, festive afternoon watching polo at Bucks Mill Park in Colts Neck. The following day, on Sept. 22, 180 Turning Lives Around is holding its second annual golf classic at Hollywood Golf Club in Deal. According to a press release, the polo match provides an opportunity for people to learn about this equestrian sport, which has a history stretching back more than 2000 years. Polo experts will be on hand to explain the rules of the game and to introduce the polo ponies - which are actually full-grown horses - to interested spectators. Families arriving at the polo field may bring coolers, chairs, tables, food and drinks. There will be music, children's activities and light refreshments at no extra charge. There will also be a raffle and a silent auction with prizes. The "Ultimate Polo and Picnic Package," which reserves one field-side parking space and includes tickets for an entire carload of people, costs $100 and must be bought in advance of the event. Walk-on spectators can buy tickets for $25 each. All proceeds will benefit 180's nationally recognized Amanda's Easel, a creative art therapy program that helps children who have been exposed to domestic violence and abuse. The next day 180 is holding its second golf classic. The occasion includes a buffet brunch, 18 holes of golf, cocktail hour, dinner and gift. This year Philip J. Scaduto, vice president of administration and marketing of Food Circus Super Markets Inc., will be honored at the awards dinner. All proceeds directly benefit 180 Turning Lives Around.
