Chinese New Year celebration at MAC Celebrate the coming lunar new year Sunday, Jan. 20, at the Middletown Arts Center with "New Year Blossom," a culturally enchanting performance, sure to be a fun-filled event for the whole family. "New Year Blossom" will include colorful dances, drumming, traditional Dragon Dance, a thrilling magic show, Chinese yo-yo, festive instrumental music, singing and Chinese opera, and audience participation with a special rendition of the game show "Jeopardy." Nearly 16 diverse acts throughout the 90-minute performance will be introduced in both English and Chinese, offering entertaining historic background during the show. Showtime is 7-8:30 p.m., followed by a reception. This special community Chinese New Year event is presented by the N.J. Youth Asian Dance and Drum Troupe and the Middletown Township Cultural and Arts Council. The troupe is renowned in the tristate area for its elaborately choreographed performances. The show is free, but tickets are required and are available at the Middletown Arts Center box office at 36 Church St. Seating is limited, so get your tickets early.
