Community Y in Hazlet offers new programs

HAZLET - The Community YMCA Children's Achievement Center of Hazlet will offer new programs for children and adults in 2008.

The center, located at 745 Poole Ave., currently serves the community with academic preschool and half-day kindergarten enrichment programs for children ages 2 1/2 to 6 years old. The center also has available programs for all ages including: Mommy & Me, Y-Kids after school clubs, Saturday enrichment, summer camp and new adult fitness and educational classes.

Y-Kids after-school clubs provide schoolaged children in grades K-2 and 3-5 with programs where they can spend safe out-ofschool time to gain proficiencies and new skills, develop friendships and connect with caring adults.

Y-Kids Clubs offer meaningful, educational and exciting activities that are ageappropriate and provide kids social, physical, creative and emotional opportunities for growth. Y-Kids Clubs meet once weekly in an 8-week session format after school and include areas such as yoga, homework club, art, drawing, dance, cartooning and karate.

YMCA Saturday enrichment programs are offered for kids in grades pre-K through five as a supplement to classroom learning and to provide further opportunities for growth. Programs are available in a number of fun and educational areas including karate (through 7th grade), cooking, art, drama, music, tumbling and more. Saturday enrichment programs are scheduled once a week in a 10-class session format beginning Jan. 12.

Fitness and educational classes are also available at the YMCA Children's Achievement Center for adults and teens. Classes are held in a 10-class session that meets once a week on evenings beginning Jan. 14. Courses include: yogalates, card making, kickboxing, beginning tap dance and photography.

The Community YMCA has been serving the Monmouth County community for the past 133 years, providing preschool and after school care to more than 800 children throughout the county every weekday.
