Owen B. Sweeney

Mr. Sweeney, 80, of Middletown, died Jan. 11, 2008. Born in New York City, he resided in the Bronx, N.Y., and Queens, N.Y., prior to relocating to Middletown 45 years ago. He was a crossing guard for the Middletown Township Police Department. Prior to that, he was retired from Precision Engineering, Middletown, where he was employed 10 years, and a tool and die maker at Varityper, East Hanover, for 25 years. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eleanor Danielus Sweeney; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gary Sweeney of Toms River, and James and Elizabeth Sweeney of the Cliffwood Beach section of Old Bridge; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Patricia and Mark Eisenmann of Middletown, Kathleen Sweeney of Middletown, Eileen and David Nahan of Eatontown, Carol and Michael Fox of Hazlet, and Jean and Michael Riccardelli of Middletown; and 11 grandchildren. A funeral service will be Jan. 16 at 10 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home,Middletown. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.
