Edwin J. Dykes

Mr. Dykes, 77, of Hazlet, died Dec. 24, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Newark, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a master's degree from Montclair State Teachers College, and a masters plus 30 from Newark State Teachers College. He taught at Rahway High School and served as librarian and later vice principal. Prior to retiring in 1990, he was the principal of the Madison School, Rahway. Mr. Dykes was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. He was a member of the Rahway Elks and served as exalted ruler. He was a true handyman who tirelessly gave of himself in everything that he did. Mr. Dykes was predeceased by two brothers, Ernest J. Dykes and Norman M. Dykes Jr. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, June; daughters Janine and Melanie; son-in-law James; and two grandsons.Afuneral service was held at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, followed by interment at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
