Police seek suspect in liquor store robbery

MATAWAN - The Matawan Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Jan. 10 at the Jonathon Ron Liquor Store on Main St.

According to police, at approximately 5:29 p.m. the suspect entered the liquor store, walked around and then approached the cashier. The suspect asked the cashier for a bottle of Hennessey and then grabbed the bottle out of the cashier's hand and walked out of the liquor store, police said.

The cashier confronted the suspect outside the store and requested the bottle back. The suspect then allegedly grabbed a black handgun out of his right pocket and pointed it at the cashier and stated, "Go back inside," according to a press release from the police department.

Police said the cashier observed the suspect get onto a bicycle and ride away, heading south on Main Street. The suspect is described as a young black male, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall, with a goatee. He was wearing a green jacket with a logo on the back, blue jeans with a blue hooded sweatshirt, and a black hat.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Matawan Police Department at (732) 290-2038.
